Armagh RFC 3rd XV 41 v Coleraine RFC 3rd XV 14
Armagh hosted Coleraine in the league at the Palace Grounds in sweltering conditions.
Coleraine saw their title challenge falter last week and came out against Armagh looking for pride. They camped themselves in the Armagh half pressing for the line but the home side weathered the storm and managed to work their way into the oppositions half. After some great work form the pack, Kyle Faloon showed his skill and pace allowing Paul Campbell to score under the posts. Faloon added the conversion and was soon at the heart of the action again, cutting through the Coleraine back line and eventually, winger Eoin O’Hagan got a kind bounce and scored in the corner.
Coleraine then managed to break the stubborn Armagh defence and scored themselves. This didn’t knock Armagh out of their stride and with the pack providing clean ball for the backs, they played with the blistering conditions and spread the ball as much as possible. Gareth McNeice crossed for a try just before half time for the hosts to lead 17 – 7 at half time.
Armagh came out for the second half and continued where they left off. With young Faloon proving dominant at out half, Stanley Hamilton, Mark Curley, and Robert Straghan all crossed the whitewash. Armagh relaxed momentarily and allowed Coleraine to score but normal service resumed when John Fletcher used his strength to crash over the line. Faloon, man of the match, added the extras to round off another fine display.
Armagh’s determination allowed them to play the free flowing rugby that they do so well and finish with a convincing 41-14 victory.
