Ballyshannon ladies best win of their short history
Ballyshannon Ladies ————–17 Cavan—————————5
Ballyshannon ladies had arguably the best win of their short history when they overcame a strong Cavan side at the Lakeside on Sunday. This win was all the more incredible when you think that Ballyshannon had never beaten or even scored against Cavan before. The development of the Ballyshannon Ladies team has come on in leaps and bounds in the last number of years and now they are as good as anyone in the division.
Early on Ballyshannon showed imagination and tried to upset the visitors by varying the play. They ran the ball wide on every chance they could which stretched the Cavan defence. . Daneka Doherty registered the first score of the match when she followed up her deft chip over the top to score at the posts. The Cavan girls were not to be out done and took the game to their hosts. A wonderful back line move allowed their full back to score under the posts and level the match. The best score of the game came just before half time when Mairead Carty lifted the ball from the base of the scrum , went on the blind side and fed Michelle Bowring who drew the cover and fed Siobhan Coughlin who scored in the corner.
In the second half Ballyshannon had to defend their line with all their might. For fifteen minutes Cavan were encamped in the home sides twenty two. Time and time again Ballyshannon held them out. This was a team afford but special mention to Louise Collins who put her body on the line on many occasions. Anna Rafferty came off the bench and her attacking prowess helped Ballyshannon to set up counter attacks. In the last minute of the game a counter attack by the Ballyshannon forwards drove the Cavan girls back to their own line, the ball was flashed to the backs who used the overlap to put Anna Rafferty in the corner . The try was converted by Michelle Bowring.
Ballyshannon Ladies will have a week off but will be back in two weeks to compete in the cup at home to Omagh
