The Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield final took place at the Kingspan Stadium on Tuesday 10th March when Campbell College, Belfast played Royal Belfast Academical Institution. This exciting game finished with Campbell College, Belfast winning the game by 20-15. John Robinson, a former President of the Ulster Branch, IRFU, and current Junior Vice-President of the IRFU, presented the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield Finalist medals to both teams and the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield to the captain of the victorious Campbell College team, Flynn Longstaff.
On Wednesday 11th March three more of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ finals took place.
The Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup Final took place at Pirrie Park when the Methodist College, Belfast 2ndxv played the Royal Belfast Academical Institution 2ndxv in a closely contested game the Royal Belfast Academical Institution team won by 17-16.
Both teams would like to thank Methodist College, Belfast for the provision of facilities and hosting the game as well as Neil Workman, Chairman of the Ulster Branch, IRFU, Age Grade Committee, for doing the post-match presentations.
On the same afternoon, and at the same venue, Bangor Grammar School 2ndxv and Wallace High School 2ndxv met in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate. The Bangor Grammar School team recorded a comprehensive 52-12 victory in this game.
Both teams would like to thank Methodist College, Belfast for the provision of facilities and hosting the game as well as John Kinnear, a Past President of the Ulster Branch, IRFU, for doing the post-match presentations.
Meanwhile, in Ballyclare, Ballyclare High School 3rdxv played Royal Belfast Academical Institution 5thxv in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate. This game went right to the wire before the Ballyclare High School 3rdxv team emerged as 20-17 winners.
Both teams would like to thank Ballyclare High School for the provision of facilities and hosting the game as well as former King’s Scholar’s RFC, Instonian’s, Ulster, Ireland and Lion’s Flanker, Ronnie Lamont, for doing the post-match presentations. Everyone concerned with the game was delighted that Ronnie Lamont was present at the game and took time to make the presentations.
On Saturday 14th March Methodist College, Belfast Medallion and Dromore High School Medallion were scheduled to have played in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate at Friends’ School, Lisburn. This game was postponed/cancelled due to the Coronavirus concerns.
Following on from the success of the Royal Belfast Academical Institution U14 Tournament, when Ballymena Academy won that 20 team event a week ago, the Ballymena Academy School was due to hosted their annual O’Kane Trophy U14 Tournament on Saturday 14th March. However, this event was cancelled due to the Coronavirus concerns.
