Following the excitement of all the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup, Bowl and Trophy games which took place on Saturday 8th February it was the turn of the teams involved in the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion, 2ndxv and 3rdxv competitions to take centre stage this week. There was, however, one midweek replay in the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup.
On Monday 10th February Dromore High School should have hosted Foyle and Londonderry College in the 1/4 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate. However, due to the prevailing weather conditions the game was postponed until Thursday 13th.
On Tuesday 11th February Banbridge Academy was to have hosted Limavady Grammar School in the 1/2 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy. However, the game was postponed and was rescheduled for Thursday 13th.
On the same afternoon Ballyclare High School played Dalriada School in the 1/2 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl. The Ballyclare High School team won this game by 17-5.
In the same competition Down High School should have entertained Grosvenor Grammar School but the game was postponed until Wednesday 12th February.
Meanwhile in Magherafelt the Rainey Endowed School Medallion team hosted Coleraine Grammar School in the 1/4 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate. The Coleraine Grammar School team won this game by 7-5.
On Wednesday 12th February Friends’ School, Lisburn hosted Ballyclare High School in the replay of their drawn Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup game. This replay game proved to be another closely contested game from which the Friends’ School, Lisburn team emerged as 24-22 winners.
The Friends’ School, Lisburn team dominated proceedings in the first half and had built up a 17-3 lead by the break. The Friends’ School points, in the first half, came through tries from Max Gillespie and Kyle Gormley, to which Reece Malone added two conversions as well as a penalty.
Mark Jackson kicked a first half penalty for the Ballyclare High School team.
The Friends’ School lead was extended to 24-3 when Fergus McEwen touched down for a try which was converted by Reece Malone.
Following this the Ballyclare High School team, with a workmanlike performance, displayed a great deal of bouncebackability. They scored three tries through Robert Reid, Harry Beckingham and Kyle Ferguson, to which Mark Jackson added two conversions, which ensured it was the Friends’ School, Lisburn team that went through to the quarter-finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Cup following their hard earned 24-22 victory.
Dromore High School played Wallace High School in the semi-final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate. Wallace High School won the game by 24-14 and will now play Bangor Grammar School in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate on Saturday 29th February
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Trophy semi-final Regent House School played Grosvenor Grammar School and won the game by 21-15. Regent House School 2ndxv now play Friends’ School, Lisburn in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Trophy on Saturday 29th February at Grosvenor Grammar School.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl semi-final Down High School played Grosvenor Grammar School and won the game by 44-12. Down High School will play Ballyclare High School in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Bowl at the Shaw’s Bridge Sports Complex on Saturday 29th February.
On Thursday 13th February Methodist College, Belfast 3rdxv hosted Carndonagh Community School in the last of the 1/4 Final games in the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup. The Methodist College, Belfast 3rdxv won the game by 24-15.
On the same afternoon Dromore High School hosted Foyle and Londonderry College in their postponed Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate 1/4 Final game. The Dromore High School team won this game by 64-7.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy competition Banbridge Academy played Limavady Grammar School in their postponed semi-final game. The Banbridge Academy team won the game by 14-10 and will now play Cambridge House Grammar School in the final of the competition at Friends’ School, Lisburn on Saturday 29th February.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate 1/2 Final Bangor Grammar School hosted Omagh Academy in a game the Bangor Grammar School team won by 47-5. Bangor Grammar School will now play Wallace High School in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate on Saturday 29th February at Pirrie Park.
On Friday 14th February Royal School, Armagh played Ballymena Academy in the 1/4 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield under lights at City of Armagh RFC. This turned out to be an excellent game which the Royal School, Armagh team won by 22-15.
Both teams would like to thank City of Armagh RFC for the use of facilities and hosting the game.
On Saturday 15th February Wallace High School 3rdxv played Enniskillen Royal Grammar School 3rdxv in the 1/4 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate.
Royal Belfast Academical Institution 5thxv played Ballymena Academy 4th xv in the 1/4 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate and won the game by 15-7.
Methodist College, Belfast played Campbell College, Belfast in the 1/2 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup and won the game by 22-5.
The game involving Royal School, Armagh and Royal Belfast Academical Institution in the 1/2 Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup was postponed due to inclement weather conditions. This game should be rescheduled to take place in the coming week.
In the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Trophy 1/2 Final Friends’ School, Lisburn hosted Belfast Royal Academy and won the game by 25-12. The Final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Trophy will see the Friends’ School, Lisburn team play Regent House School at Grosvenor Grammar School on Saturday 29th February.
Also on Saturday 15th February the three Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield 1/4 Final games took place.
Royal Belfast Academical Institution played Bangor Grammar School and won the game by 36-5.
Belfast Royal Academy played Wallace High School in a game that finished as a 3-3 draw. The replay of this game should take place in the coming week.
Sullivan Upper School played Campbell College, Belfast in a game the Campbell College, Belfast team won by 18-10.
The last two games took place in the 1/4 Finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate.
Regent House Grammar School played Methodist College, Belfast in a game the Methodist College, Belfast team won by 38-0.
The Belfast High School game against Enniskillen Royal Grammar School was postponed due to the inclement weather conditions. The replay of this game should be scheduled to take place in the coming week.
In the last of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy 1/2 Finals Cambridge House Grammar School played Portadown College in a game the Cambridge House Grammar School team won by 14-5. Cambridge House Grammar School will now play Banbridge Academy in the final of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy at Friends’ School, Lisburn on Saturday 29th February.
Following the results of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield and Plate games coming through the draws were made for the semi-finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield and the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate.

1/Wallace High School/Belfast Royal Academy v Campbell College, Belfast
2/Royal School, Armagh v Royal Belfast Academical Institution
Both these games will be played at neutral venues on Saturday 29th February with the winners of Game 1 having use of the home changing room at the Kingspan Stadium on Tuesday 10th March.

These Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Plate semi-finals are scheduled to take place on/before Saturday 29th February.
In the 1/4 Finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Plate Royal Belfast Academical Institution 5thxv defeated Ballymena Academy 4thxv by 17-5.
In the same competition Wallace High School 3rdxv defeated Enniskillen Royal Grammar School by 29-24.
The draws for the semi-finals of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup and Plate competitions took place.
