Weekend Round-up: Sat 7th December
The 4ths won 64-17 in the cup at Larne:
Such is the strength of the CI4′s that they don’t allow simple matters like having 14 men get to them. CI played the first half of this game a man down waiting on the arrival on Johnny Scott. He further bolstered a side that had already cut loose and were playing some great running rugby.
The 1sts lost 20-16 away at Ballymoney:
Plenty of effort from the CI team but ultimately bitter disappointment after a strong finish by Ballymoney and some bizarre refereeing decisions combined to deny CI victory at the death. CI had led 16-8 coming into the latter stages of the second half and were in possession of the ball as the final minute ticked down. This was despite having had three separate yellow cards in the game to Ballymoney’s one. A dubious penalty in the dying seconds was well moved by the home side, who never tired in their efforts, and the break from deep was finished a few phases later to claim the win. Defeat for Bangor too means that both sides have conceded ground on Portadown and Clogher who won with bonus points.
The 3rds lost 30-14 at home against Portadown:
The 3rds slipped to defeat against league leaders Portadown. The home side battled well but were reduced to 14 men for a large part of the game when the referee erred on the of caution and judged that Ricky Rocket was unable to continue due to concussion.
