Ireland Head Coach Joe Schmidt has backed Ulster’s Darren Cave after the centre rang the former Leinster coach to explain his words were taken out of context in an interview. The Belfast Telegraph, under the heading My face doesn’t fit with Ireland, said that Cave was “fed up with being snubbed by Ireland – and concerned that, when it comes to international rugby, his face doesn’t fit”.
But the five-timed capped Irish international rang Schmidt to explain that he felt his comments were taken out of context. When asked his opinion on when player’s vent their frustrations in the media, Schmidt insinuated that sometimes it is the newspapers who are venting, rather than players.
