Monaghan Youths nearly witnessing HISTORY in the Aviva.

Last Sunday MonaghanRFC traveled to the Aviva to watch Ireland take on the mighty All Blacks and current World Champions in an unprecedented occasion which would end in a historic occasion no matter who the victors were. Ireland were striving to beat the New Zealander’s for the first time in their history and New Zealand were trying to end a year long of test matches undefeated. A group of 42 players and eight coaches set out for what was to be a very memorable occasion and one that will surely be remembered for a very long time. A quick pit stop on the way up in the very popular Apple Green store allowed the lads to fuel up and get their vocal chords ready for the match. On the way into the stadium it seemed that the Monaghan lads had stopped into the hairdressers as pink was springing up in abundance as it turned out 108FM were handing out free head gear which was a fantastic asset to the coaches who could easily see their troops. Everyone settled into the stadium and with brilliant seats behind the goals the lads were all in great form. What a first half display from Ireland, they bossed the World Champions and ended 22 – 7 up after 40mins. At half time the talk was all about watching HISTORY in the making and Where were you when Ireland beat the All Blacks?? Oh sport has no end of surprises as the inevitable happened and the All Blacks stunned a packed Aviva stadium with a last gasp try and two attempts at the conversion to win 22 – 24. Well it was total joy turned into “I can’t believe that just happened” but on the way home and the trusted Apple Green with its Burger King magic soon had their spirits lifted again. What a magnificent day had by all. A special thanks to MonaghanRFC and their coaches who give up their time voluntarily week in week out and a special thank you to all the players involved for making it a memorable occasion and setting an example for the next road trip.
