Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 22nd December 2018
On Monday 17th December the Methodist College, Belfast team finished off their annual training camp in Portugal with a game against the Portugal National U19 team. The Methodist College team recorded a 29-5 victory against the very committed Portugal U19 squad. Thomas Armstrong scored an unconverted try to give the Methody team a 5-0 lead midway through the first half. Just before the break the Portugal team scored an unconverted try to see the scoreboard read 5-5 at the interval.
The second half saw the Methodist College team run in four tries with Thomas Armstrong touching down for a second and Stephen Miller, Callum Davidson and Chris Larmour each running in for one try. John Fletcher was successful with two conversions to secure the 29-5 victory for the Methodist College, Belfast team.
The Ulster Clubs’ xv played Campbell College, Belfast at the Meadowbank Stadium in Magherafelt. The Campbell College team scored three tries in the course of the game through Peter Adeoye, Ollie Ralston and Chris Canon.
The draws for the 3rd Round of the Danske Bank Medallion Shield and the 1st Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Trophy took place on Monday 17th December. The results of the draws are as follows 🙂

On Tuesday 18th December Banbridge Academy and Down High School played their postponed Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield 2nd Round game. The Down High School Medallion team won the game by 31-17.
On the same afternoon Enniskillen Royal Grammar School 3rdxv played Omagh Academy 3rdxv in the 2nd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup. Following a closely contested game the Omagh Academy 3rdxv emerged as 21-19 winners.
On Wednesday 19th three postponed Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield 2nd Round games were played.
Regent House School lost by 27-5 against Portadown College who will now travel to play Royal School, Armagh in the 3rd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield.
Cambridge House Grammar School defeated Belfast High School by 24-17 and will now host Belfast Royal Academy in the 3rd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield
Lurgan College defeated Foyle and Londonderry College by 19-5 and will now travel to play Craigavon Senior High School in the 3rd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield.
Belfast High School will travel to play Antrim Grammar School in the 1st Round of the Medallion Trophy competition while Banbridge Academy, Regent House School and Foyle and Londonderry College all received byes.
Three Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup matches were played on Wednesday 19th December.
Dalriada School hosted Royal Belfast Academical Institution and lost the game by 46-3, Down High School lost by 26-10 against Sullivan Upper School and Limavady Grammar School played Ballyclare High School in a game the Ballyclare High School team won by 34-5.
At 1stxv level Campbell College, Belfast hosted the King’s Hospital School, Dublin team in a game the Campbell College team won by 50-7. The Campbell College team put on a fine display of attacking rugby against a team listed as one of the favourites to win the Leinster Schools’ Vinny Murray Cup competition. The game was one of personal triumph for Conor Rankin who not only scored three tries but was also successful with six conversions as well as one penalty. Rex Tinsley, Kieran Robertson, Ollie Ralston and Dara Gaskin were the other try scorers for the Campbell College, Belfast team.
Meanwhile, at Roughfort Belfast Royal Academy played the Royal School, Armagh team and recorded a morale boosting 12-10 victory at the end of a very closely contested game. Tom Stewart scored a brace of tries for the Belfast Royal Academy team with Ryan Jameson adding one conversion.
The Royal School, Armagh points came through unconverted tries scored by James Brown and Josh King.
On Thursday 20th December Foyle and Londonderry College played Cambridge House Grammar School in a game the Cambridge House Grammar School team won by 31-15. The Foyle and Londonderry College points came from Keelin Coyle who scored two tries, one conversion as well as one penalty.
James McNabney and Josh Mark scored two tries each for the Cambridge House team and Ethan Crawford scored one. Rory McCandless was successful with three conversions to secure the 31-15 win for his Cambridge House Grammar School team.
On Saturday 22nd December Wallace High School hosted Coleraine Grammar School in a game the Wallace High School team won by 24-5. Harry McMeekin scored two tries for the Wallace team with Harry Long touching down for a third. Nathan Doak was successful with three conversions as well as a penalty.
Marcus Poskitt scored an unconverted try for the Coleraine Grammar School team.
Royal Belfast Academical Institution entertained Bangor Grammar School in a game the saw the recently appointed Belfast Inst Director of Rugby, Jason Morgan, come face to face with a team he knew really well having previously been Director of Rugby at Bangor Grammar School. At the end of an eight try thriller it was the Royal Belfast Academical Institution team that emerged as 40-17 winners.
Ewan Magee scored two tries for the Belfast Inst team with Bradley McNamara, Zac Simpson, Zac Davidson and team captain, Robin McIlveen, all running in for one try apiece. Robin was also successful with two conversions as well as two penalties.
The Bangor Grammar School points came through tries from Aaron Sexton and Ben McCrossan. Rhys Larmour added the extras to both tries as well as converting one penalty kick.
