Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Round Up Saturday 1st December 2018
The draws for the 2nd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Cup and the 1st Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 2ndxv Plate were made on Monday 26th November.

The Wallace High School 3rdxv v Campbell College, Belfast 4thxv Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup game was postponed due to the inclement weather conditions as were the Down High School 3rdxv v Methodist College, Belfast 4thxv and Omagh Academy v St Columba’s College, Stranorlar games in the same competition.
On the same afternoon a young Ballymena Academy 2nd xv/3rd xv Select team played Belfast Metropolitan College 1stxv in a friendly game the Belfast Metropolitan team won by 26-0.
Wellington College played Carrickfergus Grammar School in a game, played in extremely difficult conditions, the Wellington College team won by 29-19. The Wellington College points came through tries from Dylan O’Neill, Marcus Smyth, Jake Pollock, Adam Savage and Jake Hamilton. Jamie was also successful with two conversion kicks.
The Carrickfergus Grammar School points came through tries from Scott Gardiner, who touched down for two, as well as Jack Dick who scored one. Daniel Curley converted two of the tries.
On Thursday 29th November the draw for the 2nd Round of the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield was organised by Mr John Andrews. The result of the draw is as follows 🙂

These Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield 2nd Round games are scheduled to take place on/before Saturday 15th December 2018.
On Friday 30th November the Rainey Endowed School U16xv played Ballyclare High School 3rdxv in the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ 3rdxv Cup. The Ballyclare High School team won the closely contested game by 16-12.
On the same afternoon Campbell College, Belfast played Methodist College, Belfast. Despite being 11-5 behind at the break the Methodist College team went on to win the game by 26-14. The Campbell College points came through a Kieran Robertson try and three Jack Bonnor penalties.
The Methodist College team scored four tries through Chris Larmour, who touched down twice, John Fletcher and Thomas Armstrong. John Fletcher capped a fine personal performance and added three conversions.
That evening Wallace High School played Ballymena Academy at the Queen’s University playing fields. The Wallace High School team won the game by 10-3 with Jack Dillon scoring two unconverted tries for the Wallace team and Ross McKay converting a penalty opportunity for the Ballymena Academy team.
Omagh Academy played Foyle and Londonderry College in a game the Omagh team won by 36-10. Michael Marechaux, Rory Ritchie, Ryan Armstrong with two, Will Stewart and Robbie Sproule scored the tries for the Omagh Academy team with Will Stewart adding three conversions.
The Foyle College points came through a try, conversion and penalty from the outstanding Keelin Coyle.
On Saturday 1st December Ballyclare Secondary School played Friends’ School, Lisburn and Strabane Academy played Belfast High School in the last of the 1st Round games in the Danske Bank Ulster Schools’ Medallion Shield. The Ballyclare Secondary School team lost their game by 12-3 while the Strabane Academy team lost their game by 31-5.
At 1stxv level Belfast High School hosted Regent House School in a game the Regent House team won by 29-19. The spirited Belfast High School team scored their points through tries from Thabiso Madala, Aaron Douglas and Andrew Huey. Aaron Douglas was successful with two conversions.
The Regent House team scored five tries through Stuart Martin, Josh Heron, Matty McFarland, Kristian Wallace McKimm and Callum Dawson. Stuart Martin added the extras to two of the tries.
Belfast Royal Academy defeated Coleraine Grammar School by 39-22 in an entertaining game at Roughfort. Rory Linden, Jack McKee, Adam Keed, Rob Sturgess, Louis West and Ryan Jameson each scored a try for the Belfast Royal Academy team. Harry Warke was successful with three conversions as well as a penalty.
The Coleraine Grammar School points came through tries from Pierce Crowe, who touched down twice, and Paddy White. Pierce converted one try as well as a penalty and Tyler McNeill added one conversion.
Cambridge House Grammar School recorded a 49-0 victory against Lurgan College. Andrew Wilson scored two tries with Adam Brannigan, Marcus Bracewell, Peter Hagan Kane McIlroy and Rhys Ervine each scoring one try. Jordan McMullan added five conversions with Josh Caldwell and Kane McIlroy adding one conversion each.
Dalriada School hosted Bangor Grammar School in a game the Dalriada team won by 24-10. Jack Murdoch, Will Scott, Jacob Fleck and Caleb Bartlett scored the Dalriada tries to which Henry Ross added two conversions.
The Bangor Grammar School points came through unconverted tries from Colin Lusty and Ben McCrossan.
Dromore High School played Larne Grammar School in a game the Dromore High School team won by 33-0. Peter O’Connor, Ben Carey, Tom Dolaghan, Ryan McDowell and Xander Lowham scored the Dromore High School tries to which Rhys Dale added four conversions.
Enniskillen Royal Grammar School played the City of Armagh RFC U18 team and won the game by 36-0. Stuart Brown scored two tries for the Enniskillen RGS team with David Stinson, Alex Parke, Stephen Balfour and Callum Smyton each scoring one try. Eddie Keyes was successful with three of his conversion kicks.
In a high scoring game Friends’ School, Lisburn lost by 32-25 against Ballyclare High School. Reece Malone scored two tries, two penalties and two conversions for the Friends’ School team with Oliver Saunders touching down for one try.
Matthew McCullough with two, Callum McConnell, Adam Campbell, Adam Clarke and Adam Barron scored the Ballyclare High School tries to which Adam Clarke added one conversion.
Rainey Endowed School played Royal School, Armagh in a game the Royal School, Armagh team won by 26-6. The Rainey Endowed School team had built up a 6-5 lead by the interval. Harry Evans scored their points with two successful penalty kicks. Nicky Jennings scored an unconverted try for the RS Armagh team.
The second half saw the Royal School, Armagh team score three tries through Jude Roberts, Aaron Woods and Romain Morrow. Three successful conversion kicks from Charlie Worth secured the 26-6 win for the Royal School, Armagh team.
Royal School, Dungannon hosted Banbridge Academy in a game the RS Dungannon team won by 43-0. The home team scored seven tries through Peter Nicholl, Luke McMullan, Joshua Clarke, Adam Junk, Adam McFarland, Jack Girvan and Jordan Redmond. Jack Girvan was successful with four of his conversion kicks.
The Banbridge Academy team displayed great commitment throughout the game with Andrew Girvan impressing with his all-round display.
December 1st-December 8th has been set aside as the IRFU Charitable Trust Week. By tradition, over a long period of time, schools attached to the Ulster Branch, IRFU, have raised considerable amounts of money for this most worthy of causes. All schools have been issued with information regarding the IRFU Charitable Trust and it is hoped that much more money will be raised.
The Ulster U19 team, a good percentage of whose team are schoolboy players, will take on the might of the Australian Schools’ team on Tuesday 4th December at the Queen’s University playing fields in a game that is scheduled to kick off at 5-30pm. Support for the Ulster team at this game would be welcome.
