The scene was set @ Banbridge RFC the home of Rory Best to welcome a son of the club home from the Lions VICTORIOUS tour of Oz where he captained the side and along with Ulster man Tommy Bowe and their good friend and fellow Irish Lion Sean O’Brien they spoke candidly and in a relaxed way about the greatest tour in the history of the Lions.
Everyone in that marque had watched every game on the Lions tour and no doubt some of them went on the tour along with 50,000+ supporters who travelled to Oz and created the unparalled sea of red to support a man from Banbridge RFC called Rory Best who started out playing rugby at school in Portadown and went on to win the Lions tour. We have one thing to say about Rory Best, and that is, when he was coming back from injury a few years ago he played his come back game in a Banbridge RFC jersey and his fellow players from that game and his fellow lions Tommy & Sean were present on Thursday past on a night of freindship and rugby.
NO ONE will ever take away from Rory and the rest of the guys on that tour that THE LIONS OWN IT – they WON beating Australia.
Niall Crozier was absolutely superb as a commentator and as Banbridge RFC cut a path of victory through Irish Rugby we can tell you there will be many many more nights like this at the club.
It just brought it home that at the end of the day Rory Best is from Banbridge RFC.
