Newtownards Chronicle

With a successful track record of printing and publishing over 100 years, the Spectator and Chronicle group has firmly established itself as one of Northern Ireland´s leading local newspaper groups. It provides for the needs of its readers, the local community, local businesses and advertisers.

The Newtownards Chronicle is the oldest paper in the group and is the only paid for weekly title in this strongly agri-tourist driven area. Since it was established in 1873, the Chronicle has been issued every week; should Christmas, the Twelfth or any other public holiday fall on the normal publication day (currently a Thursday), the Newtownards Chronicle and County Down Observer (to give it its full title) has appeared in newsagents and other shops throughout its circulation area. Even two World Wars and other interruptions, including strikes, did not prevent the Chronicle being printed and ready for its readers!

The Chronicle covers a wide geographical area; Newtownards town itself, the Ards Peninsula encompassing Donaghadee and Millisle, Comber and Dundonald, Ballygowan, Saintfield, Killinchy, Killyleagh, Crossgar, Ballynahinch, Carryduff – and all points in between.

Over the years, other newspapers have tackled the same geographic area as the Newtownards Chronicle, but there’s only one newspaper that has remained unrivalled by others and only one the people of the Ards want to pick up each and every Thursday. Everyone reads the Chronicle and for advertisers, that means increased opportunities to grow sales.

As well as designing and producing our own newspapers and digital media, we’re also available and keen to work with companies, charities, community groups etc from around the Boroughs of North Down and Ards. Whatever your organisation’s communications and publicity requirements, Spectator News & Media can provide you with the creativity, expertise, facilities and resources you could possibly need, and all at a great local value and convenience!
