Match Report
Limavady v UUC
Saturday,3rd November 2018
This Saturday Limavady entertained their local neighbours UUC. Going on current standings this was a top versus bottom clash and that is how the final result panned out. For the first eighteen minutes the game was fairly even stevens but once the first try broke the ice the floodgates then opened. Bob Lamberton managed to get the first points on the board when he evaded a couple of tackles to touch down. It was Bob again who stretched the lead when, following a good break by Daniel Irvine in the midfield, Bob was on hand to run in and finish with a spectacular swan dive. Only a few minutes later Peter Wilson and Matthew Haslett showed an understanding of each other from mini/ maxi days when they exchanged passes with Matthew putting Peter in for his first try of the season. The all important bonus point try followed when Luke Montgomery was in support of an excellent break by loose forward Johnny Lees to take the inside pass and score his first try for the club. Limavady didn’t ease off and a further three tries would follow before half-time. Daniel Irvine was first up when he finished off good inter change play by the forwards. Next on the score sheet was a well deserved try from a young man in his first season at this level having joined this year straight from school. The forwards powered their way through the midfield and Ben Riley was on hand to finish off the move. Completing the scoring in the first half was second row, John Purcell, when he finished more like a twinkle toed out-half than a forward when he side stepped the UUC full back to score under the posts. With two of these tries converted by Peter Wilson the half-time score was 39.0
Limavady expected more of the same in the second half but to be fair to UUC they increased their effort and managed to hold Limavady at bay until the seventy third minute. UUC, in fact, came close to scoring themselves but good defence by Limavady ensured their line was not breached. Limavady finished the stronger and were rewarded with two final tries. Ben Riley again scored following forward domination and the final try of the afternoon came from prop, Clive Scott, when he simply bull-dozed his way through three attempted tackles to score under the posts. With Peter Wilson adding the extras for these two tries the final result of 53.0 sees Limavady remain at the top of the table.
Visitors next week to Limavady will be Malone 2, the second string of another top Ulster club so another big effort will be required.
