The 2012-2013 season proved to be a very successful year for the lads of UUC 2nd XV as their very first year in Junior 6 saw them take the league by a clear 3 point having only being beat 3 times in the whole season. A lot of credit must go to the Captains of David McMenemy and his Vice Captain Chris Elliott who worked very hard to get numbers out to training which saw several players playing 1st XV rugby as the fluid system ethos of UUC Rugby is that no place is a certainty for any player, and this season showed how this system worked really as players pushed each other to become better. The new captain this year will Be Phil McLean, who has lead by example all season and now vows to take the 2nds to the top of their new league in the 2013-14 season aided with two new vice captains in Angus Jinks and Johnny Harding the task will be huge say the lads but not impossible as they plan to bring a more cultured and professional end to training and playing. 1st XV Captain David Orr says this can only be a good thing yet again this season as it will push players to do the sessions required to enable the uni to climb the Q1 league. With the success of the club in the recent years UUC RFC are also proud to announce a new 3rd XV team captained by Ricky Boyd a veteran player in the club and opens the team up to all new players and freshers, whether you are new to rugby, a developing player or just a social player Ricky says this is the team for you. Its going to be a fantastic new season as preseason kicks off at University Grounds July 25th, some sessions are happening at Jordanstown and the Belfast area, if you need any info please contact us HERE
