The sixth IRB Junior World Championship will kick off in Nantes, La Roche-sur-Yon and Vannes in the north west of France on June 5 with the final taking place on June 23.
Champions South Africa will be there to defend their crown after they won the Under 20 title on home soil last year, when over 35,000 fans packed into Newlands Stadium in Cape Town to see them defeat New Zealand in a thrilling final, that was watched in 165 countries around the world.
And with just seven days to go until the action gets underway in France, IRB Chairman Bernard Lapasset believes it’s shaping up to be a great event.
“This competition is magical. It provides some of the best Rugby on offer at this age level,” said Lapasset.
“Rugby fans around the globe associate the IRB Junior World Championship with open, running Rugby played by the 12 best under age teams in the world and I have no doubt that the excitement on the field will be matched by the warm welcome and hospitality that will greet the teams and their fans.”
“It’s so exciting to hear that the tournament will be broadcast to so many homes around the world, which helps our aim of growing the game on a global scale,” said Lapasset.
