With two months to go before the start of the Rugby World Cup Sevens 2013 in Moscow, the Russian ambassador to London, Alexander Yakovenko, today hosted a high-level reception with key stakeholders and British companies underscoring the wide appeal of the newest Olympic sport.
Speaking during the reception, Vyacheslav Kopiev, President of Rugby Union Russia, stressed Moscow’s commitment to deliver an exceptional sporting and cultural event that will showcase Rugby Sevens and Russia at its very best in the vibrant and exciting city of Moscow.
Mr Kopiev confirmed that discussions with government authorities and major private sector companies were well advanced to support significant community ticket programmes both within Moscow and regionally within Russia. He also confirmed that as part of the tournament’s festival programme, RWC Sevens 2013 will feature a live music concert including a headline act and bands and artists from Russia’s hit TV music show, The Voice.
Speaking at the event in London, Mr Kopiev said: “Rugby World Sevens 2013 promises to be a celebration of Rugby and citizens around Moscow and the whole of Russia are looking forward to welcoming players, coaches, fans and officials from the world with open arms. Russia is a passionate and proud Olympic and Rugby nation and Rugby World Cup Sevens 2013 will hopefully inspire a new generation of Rugby players around the country to start playing ahead of Rio 2016.”
