This summer will see the new IRFU Touch rugby programme taking to pitches at rugby clubs in Dublin and Belfast. Given the global rise in popularity of Touch rugby and with key elements of fun, fitness and skill, this is a sport definitely to give a try.
Plans have been put together to facilitate the growth of IRFU Touch rugby in Ireland, and in conjunction with the IRFU Tag programme, IRFU Touch and IRFU Tag provides social rugby to all levels of ability, skill and fitness.
Touch rugby is a game where players touch part of the ball carrier, the ball carrier’s clothing or the ball itself, instead of tackling in the more physical sense of the word. Therefore it is a minimum contact version of rugby.

Olly Hodges, IRFU Leisure Rugby Manager, said: “The IRFU are very excited to introduce a new form of social rugby in IRFU Touch through our club network.
“IRFU Touch rugby is a fun, fast and skillful form of social rugby that gives the opportunity for participants to experience a non-contact form of rugby, while still enjoying the health and fitness benefits of regular exercise.
“We are delighted to introduce IRFU Touch rugby as part of our summer social rugby programme, and along with IRFU Tag rugby, we now have forms of non-contact rugby to suit all ability and fitness levels from the complete beginner to the keen competitor.”
Registrations for IRFU Touch rugby in Men’s, Veterans and Mixed Leagues are now available online here at www.irfutouch.ie.
