What is a Core 150 Shaker?
The Core 150 shaker isn’t your bog standard shaker, it really is unique and unrivalled. One of the shakers main features is the 150 gram (hence ‘Core 150’ name) compartments. There are 3 x 50g ‘Tupperware like’ compartments with a sealable lid allowing you to store several servings of your favourite nutrition products. First thoughts?
I had huge expectations of the Core 150 as I came across this product about a year ago and have always wanted one since then. My high expectations were fulfilled and returned with interest. The first thing I noticed is the size of the shaker. The vast majority of normal shakers are approx 600-700ml the Core 150 shaker is just over 1L in size. The shaker itself is noticeably wider & taller, but not overbearing. I have been using the three compartments for when I have been on the road. I normally use it to store a serving of whey, organics greens powder and as a pill box holding some Fish Oils/ Vitamin D/ Probiotics.
What I love about the shaker is that it is very useful when you are organising yourself the night before or in the morning allowing you to sort out your hydration and supplementation. It should be noted this shaker isn’t just for protein powders- I have stored guacamole, greek yoghurt, and almond butter in the compartments no problem and they have all washed out effortlessly later that night. For those who are anal about their servings it helps that each compartment is accurately 50g allowing you to be accurate with your serving sizes without using a scoop
Usability
Leak proof: I know, it is a bit silly having to state this as a benefit but it is the most common problem with shakers. Another great advantage of the Core 150 is the snap lock feature of the cap which seals you shaker. It may only be trivial but some shakers cap swing back and hit you when you are drinking from them.
Ever had you powder stuck in the bottom of the shaker? Thankfully this doesn’t happen with the Core 150 thanks to the compartments. If any of you use weight gainers or meal replacements there is plenty of room for your powder and liquid to ensure the powder and liquid can mix. No one likes lumpy shakes post training. Look and Feel
The shaker feels as sturdy and solid as it looks. I have gone through at least 10 shakers (through breaking and losing them) in the past few years so I was keen to test out the durability of this one. I dropped it from chest height a couple of times and thankfully it passed my ad hoc testing with flying colours. On that note the Core 150 is available with a lime green or vibrant pink, deep purple or bright red coloured lid and compartments.
Down falls?
This was the most difficult part of writing this review. I know there are some products out there such as weight gainers where the serving size exceeds 150g which is a minor problem. To get around this I suppose you could just keep it in the shaker as well as the compartments.
If I was being a stickler it should also be mentioned that girls (and men)with small hands will have to shake the Core 150 with both hands as it is marginally bigger than the normal shakers. It is also slightly taller but this is being ultra objective as you are getting a 1 litre shaker with 3 x 50g compartments and I am certain it couldn’t have been made any smaller for the storage you are getting.
One final criticism might be that there are only 4 colours available but I really am being pedantic here and looking for faults. I am sure there will be more out in the future anyway.
Summary
The Core 150 really is the Rolls Royce of shakers. I have used a number of other similar products such as the Smart Shaker which do not come close to this. My main problem with these other products was that powders crystallised therefore you could not seal them. Another good thing is that for every shaker bought Core 150 will provide 1 nutritional meal as a charitable donation to those children who need it most.
