Portadown 3rd xv entertained the small crowd at Chambers Pk with some exciting running rugby. They beat Donaghdee 2nd xv 50 points to nil with tries from R Davies, A Murtagh, A Hara, A Robinson, J Haughey. Alan Robinson kicked penalties and conversion to complete the scoring.
The mix of youth and experience in the team showed in the various running plays in the game. Alan Hara’ silky running proved a problem for Donaghdee and it was his constant breaks up field that set the platform for the Portadown team to score at will.
On one up field break Alan beat his opposite centre and then the cover defence to sprint clear, and as the full back came in, he passed the ball to set Young wing Davies up for a great try.

Donaghdee tried hard to break free from the strong Portadown defence only to end up having the ball turned over in Portadown’s favour.
The referee called the game up short to save the Dee and more heart ache as it was obvious that a dominant Portadown were just getting stronger.
Non playing captain Mark Parker was more than pleased with the performance. Mark believes the team can now catch up on the poor start to the season that saw them lose their early games through unlucky injuries.
The3rd xv team captained by Mark and Coached by Trevor Caruthers, will hope to move up the league in the future and challenge for honours by the end of the season. And with performances like this they surely will do just that.
