Kukri Qualifying League 2, Lisburn 1XV v Limavady 1XV, Eglantine Road, Lisburn, 3rd November 2012
Limavady notched up their second league win of the season with a bonus point victory over Lisburn. The home team took an early lead, but Limavady evened things up through the boot of Greg Jordan.
The first rarely got going, with both sides evenly matched, however Jordan capitalised with another penalty before half time. HT 3-6
The all blacks team talk at half time seemed to inspire the players, and it wasn’t long before John Purcell crashed over the line for the first try of the afternoon. Jordan converted in front of the posts. After two missed penalties, Limavady got their second score, this time full back Steven Kilburn came running from deep and burst through the Lisburn defence, he then converted his own try.
The visitors weren’t finished there, great work from, centre Stuart Hull broke the line got caught metres from the line, the impressive prop Andy Carmichael was on hand to tunnel through from the resulting ruck for his first try for the 1XV. Steven Kilburn missed the conversion.
With the wind in their sails, Limavady pushed for the fourth try. Lisburn defended well, but outhalf Jordan nailed a drop goal to put the game to bed with 10 minutes to go. The home team where totally outplayed the whole game but they did get a consolation try with 5 minutes to go.
The roesiders sealed the bonus point when Alan Kilburn showed great power and speed to cross the whitewash. His brother Steven converted with a great kick from the sideline. FT 10-35
Limavady are on their travels again next week when they visit Larne, and will be hoping to keep their current winning streak running.
Junior League Section 4, Lisburn 3XV v Limavady 2XV, Eglantine Road, Lisburn, 3rd November 2012
Limavady 2XV travelled to Lisburn with a weakened side which included 8 players up from the 3XV and a further 2 players making positional changes to face a Lisburn 3XV who had lost all games to date this season but bolstered by a number of their 2XV players who had no game.
On 13 minutes Lucas Brolly picked up the ball from the base of a ruck inside the Lisburn half and made good ground before offloading the ball to John McCollum who again made hard yards before passing the ball out to Ross Parkhill on the left wing who ran in our first points of the day. Pearce McNickle missed the conversion leaving the score at 5 points up to Limavady.
On 20 minutes Limavady conceded an unconverted try in the left corner being punished for a period of ill discipline and missed first time tackles leaving the score at 5 points all. Limavady didn’t learn from their mistakes and on 30 minutes gave away another penalty in front of the posts which Lisburn converted taking the score to 8 points to 5 in Lisburn’s favour.
The match continued with both sides making a number of errors before Limavady on 38 minutes granted Lisburn another easy 3 points in front of the posts. Limavady had the final say of the half with Jason McMullan tapping a quick penalty and making good ground before passing out to Lucas Brolly on the left wing who bulldozed his way over the line to leave Limavady trailing 11points to 10 at half time.
With just 2 minutes of the second half gone Johnny Loughrey was sin binned for a professional foul at the ruck and after a further minute Limavady’s tackling let them down with Lisburn scoring a soft try which was unconverted leaving Limavady 6 points adrift.
Pearce McNickle after periods of good pressure from Limavady evened the scores at 16 all after penalties on 6th and 11th minutes into the half. With the scores all even Limavady now with 15 players back on the park were putting the Lisburn defence under great pressure but each time they threw away an opportunity to increase their points tally.
On 20 minutes after a good period inside the Lisburn 22 Limavady were again penalised which was made worse by talking back to the referee finally resulting in Lisburn scoring a converted try against the run of play.
Limavady continued to pressurise Lisburn deep into their 22 and on 30 minutes Limavady took a quick tap penalty which was well defended by Lisburn who eventually had to bring down a ruck to prevent a try which lead to Limavady again losing the ball and Lisburn clearing their lines into touch. From the lineout the ball made its way through a number of hands before reaching Pearce McNickle inside his own half who made good ground before kicking the ball into the Lisburn 22 being chased by Richard Robinson who beat his man scoring between the sticks to bring the score to 23 all.
On 39 minutes McNickle was on the score sheet again after a period of pressure inside the Lisburn red zone and a number of forced penalties by Lisburn the ball found it’s way into Pearce’s hands a from a few metres out he wasn’t going to be stopped. McNickle converted his own try to give Limavady a 30 – 23 point lead with 1.5 minutes left on the clock.
From the kick off, Limavady forwards dropped the ball handing Lisburn possession and with Limavady now conceding a number of forced penalties Lisburn put on the pressure determined to get a draw and their first points of the season. Limavady eventually conceded the try with Lisburn missing the conversion in the last kick of the game to give Limavady a 30 points to 28 victory and more importantly the 2 league points.
