An understrength Limavady 1XV team entertained a very strong Ballynahinch 2’s at the John Hunter Memorial ground on Saturday and despite putting in a much improved second half performance were well beaten losing 50-3.

The visitors started very strongly and showed their intent in the first 2 mins when they ran the ball from deep in their half and created an overlap for their winger to score under the posts. Limavady never recovered from this start and soon found themselves down a further try when they kicked possession away to the Hinch fullback and he launched a blistering counter attack which resulted in a score under the posts to make it 12-0 to the visitors. A consolation penalty from Robinson reduced the score to 12-3 but this was the best it got for Limavady in the half as the visitors ran in a further 3 tries to leave the half time score 31-3 to the visitors.

Following stern words from the coaches at half time the Limavady team significantly upped their game and encamped for long periods in the Hinch 22 but couldn’t get over the whitewash and it was during this period that the visitors ran turnover ball on their own five yard line and went the length of the pitch to score under the posts. Despite this setback Limavady again pressed deep into the Hinch 22 but again from turnover ball Hinch kicked the ball downfield and their winger won the footrace to score in the corner. With the last move of the match the visitors centre barged over to score under the posts to make the final score 50-3 to the visitors.

This was a very strong Ballynahinch side with 3 Ulster academy players in the team and many of the side had experience at AIL and the difference in the pace they brought to the game was there for all to see. Limavady tried hard and the one positive that came out of the game was the line out which worked well.

Next saturday Limavady travel to Lisburn in the resumption of the league programme.

Minor League (North) Limavady 3XV v Letterkenny 2XV
John Hunter Memorial Ground, Limavady 27th October 2012

Its 8 out of 8 for the 3rdXV as they ran out winners 40-12 against a strong Letterkenny 2’s at the John Hunter Memorial ground. In a highly competitive game it was only in the last quarter that the fitter Limavady team gave themselves breathing space when they ran in 3 late tries. Prior to this Letterkenny had come right back into the game with 2 quick tries to leave the score at 20-12 but with a few astute substitutions made by coach Forbes turned the tide in favour of the home team.
