It is always an exciting and thrilling day to watch ladies rugby. To see the sheer effort that goes in to field the team, to travel fairly long distances to take on sides with no guarantee of the victory. Speaking to a Ballyshannon player during the week revealed how delighted they are when a team make the effort to travel from say Belfast so that everyone can get a game of rugby. For clubs in Donegal or Cavan or Monaghan this means alot. For Malone, there was no problem travelling. They just want to play!

Ballyshannon were superb, its as simple as that. No quarter given, coordinated rugby, the dynamic counter ruck or switch move including behind the back passes, off loads and seriously aggressive forward play was awesome to watch. Perhaps they now know themselves that on the horizon is Semi Pro rugby in the AIL leagues. In just a few seasons they have worked on their structures and it shows!
Malone ladies, a young side, probably an average age under 20! Maybe even U18. Building their team from scratch over the past two seasons they are now fielding consistently their side and making the effort to travel to Ballyshannon just underlines their is serious commitment to play within this side. They were taking on a bigger and more experienced side but the forwards fronted up big time! The backs were superb, and with a new dynamic scrum half, the rugby was furious, intelligent and when the chances to attack were created, boy did they cease them, charging up the pitch in phase after phase of off loads and probably right out of Nick Williams book it was seriously exciting.
This is what the whole sport is all about. It is humbling to watch these two teams. Its also an adrenaline ride because it is fierce rugby!
