AFTER THE DAY THE ATTENDEE WILL THINK DIFFERENTLY ABOUT SPORTS CLUB MANAGEMENT AND FUNDRAISING. CLUBS UNDERTAKING SOME IDEAS HAVE SEEN SIGNIFICANT CHANGES IN THEIR FINANCIAL POSITION

Creating welcoming and sustainable community sport

Increasingly people working in sports development and community sport as a whole are required to be more business-savvy. They have to demonstrate that they are adding value and that they bring leadership and management skills to the clubs and projects they support and deliver.

There is an ever stronger demand for projects and clubs to show sustainability and for sports development people to play a key role in ensuring that these are run as viable enterprises. Accountability is becoming even more important and as funding is coming under pressure excellent business development and planning must be in place. Many sports projects are only funded or part-funded for a limited period of time and will have to develop viable business models to survive beyond the initial funding period.

Sports development operates in an environment which is getting more challenging with less consumer spending and stronger competition for people’s time and money. People working in the sector will have to develop and learn to apply new mindsets and skills to become focused on the business and enterprise aspects.

These are just come of the challenges people involved with community sport are facing. However, some community sports providers view the changes represented by the rise of the ‘demanding’ consumer and growth in social and mobile media as opportunities. As a result they deliver welcoming experiences, engage with their communities and become sustainable. This workshop focuses on these issues, highlight best practice and provide thoughts, tools and to-dos on how you too can become a sustainable community sports provider.
