ABOUT
Keeping the great sport a thugs game played by gentlemen – suggest it to your friends!
Description
This group is intended to help keep alive the fantastic and noble traditions that make rugby the greatest game in the world.
All true rugby players are educated in the ‘Code’ ; a set of, until now, unwritten rules born of respect, sportsmanship and fair play. Rules that govern every facet of the sport and stop it from descending into a barbaric endeavor.
It’s time those rules were written!
As the old saying goes “football is a gentleman’s game, played by thugs…rugby is a thugs game, played by gentlemen”.
This group isn’t designed to slag off footballers (soccer players), this is purely about rugby (if you want to insult football there are dozens of other groups/pages devoted to that).
The point we’re making is that what truly sets this sport apart is not in the tackle, run or kick but in the collective attitudes of every man, woman and child involved. We’re not saying you shouldn’t hit hard and enjoy some good banter; rather that behind all of those things should be The Rugby Code.
We need to keep these traditions alive, now more than ever. With the rising popularity of our sport people are flooding into the game without ever having been taught what rugby’s all about. We as a rugby community need to inform them and make sure this game doesn’t slide down the slippery slope so many other games have.
This is not about class, wealth or social background. Some of the greatest players and supporters have come from the most humble backgrounds and have gone on to represent the game with true honour and humility.
Whatever your sporting background you need to leave your problems at the door, let your play do the talking and pay everyone involved the respect they deserve.
