Limavady U17 vs Ballymoney U17 19/2/12 Limavady entertained Ballymoney at the John Hunter Memorial Grounds in a friendly match prior to an intense cup tournament. Limavady had a point to prove beginning the game as underdogs against the Premier Division team. Limavady began strongly and ran in 2 tries in the first 10 min thanks to some hard running from the back line and a ranging run from C Graham. Ballymoney fought back with a try and conversion of their own making it 10 points to 7. Again Limavady dug deep and scored a brace of tries thanks to great play from R Purdy and G Mackey. The teams turned round at half time with Limavady leading by 24 points to 7 and with the wind at their backs. The home side were punching above their weight but it did not look that way playing fantastic rugby with both backs and forwards on top of their game. The back line ran in another brace of tries in some style leaving the score 36 points to 7. Ballymoney players did not know how to handle the Limavady men and with 15 min remaining D Whiteside broke free on the half way line and ran a long 50 meters to score between the posts. The game was over by now but the Limavady men had more to come and the back line put together another great run of high pressure rugby which resulted in another rewarding try. This ended the game and the Limavady men returned to the clubhouse victorious by 46 points to 7. Limavady deserved their victory and this will give them all confidence going into the cup competition next week. Well done to the Limavady men who played fantastic rugby in difficult conditions. This weeks man of the match goes to D Whiteside.
