The difference in standard between the top and bottom of Qualifying League 1 was very obvious as Cooke overwhelmed relegation candidates Limavady on this Wednesday evening fixture.
The northwest side were outclassed by an overly confident Cooke who had secured their essential, bonus point producing, four tries within 20 minutes. The scoring was opened after five minutes when prop Frazer barged over from a short penalty. Tries followed in rapid succession and by the end of the first half the mobile prop had claimed another touch down as did centre McMurray, winger Pyper with fullback Cartmill adding two more. Out-half Elliott kicked 5 out of 6 bringing the score at half time to Cooke 40 Limavady 0
Within five minutes of the restart Cooke had breached the Limavady line twice with fine individual tries for No8 Mitchell and a second for captain McMurray. While Limavady continued to battle hard, concentration amongst the Belfast side waned and a number of casual pieces of play resulted in mistakes as the home team coasted. A further try was claimed by replacement out-half Murphy and McMurray completed his ‘hat-trick’. Elliott’s strike rate with the conversions during the second half was 100% giving him a contribution of 18 points out of a possible 20, completing the score at Cooke 68 Limavady 0
