A successful trip to Cavan for Omagh Accies Under 7s and Under 8s on Saturday
By Kevin Murnaghan | Sunday 19th February 2012
The teams arrived to glorious sunshine, and then braved snow and freezing hail before the sun returned again.
Omagh Under 7s played showed great determination to play through the conditions and secured an impressive victory by 6 tries to 2. Harvey King was probably man of the match even though he didn’t get on the scoresheet. He was closely followed by Joel Armstrong, who did score 2 tries, and Adam Havlin who scored 1.
There were first tries of the season for Finn Murnaghan, Jamie Lyons and Charlie Dillon who showed what a powerful and direct runner he can be. Sam Beattie, Joshua Miller and Mark Allerton all played their part in the difficult conditions.
Omagh Under 8s played very well and were comprehensive winners scoring 11 tries in the process. Patrick Corcoran and Henry Dunbar each scored 4 tries. Both players have great potential and Patrick’s pace and Henry’s strength always cause problems for the opposition.
Joseph McGirr, Murchadh Duffy and Reece Braden got the other tries for Omagh but the win was really based on a fine overall team performance with Lewis Kerrigan, Alex Hill, Jason Havlin, Luke Spence, Jake McKinley and Alex Colhoun putting in the hard work in defence and attack that allowed their teammates score the tries.
