Quins Ladies – Top of the Table!
Enniskillen 17 Quins Ladies 24
It was a windy day at Mullagameen that saw Belfast Harlequins head to the top of the Div 2N table with a 24 – 17 win over Enniskillen.
Enniskillen came out strongly despite the wind being against them. They put pressure on the Quins Ladies from the kick off and within minutes were awarded a penalty in front of the posts – a successful kick saw the score go to 3 – nil.
This was the kick the Quins Ladies needed and from the kick off they put pressure on the Enniskillen team and the game was played within the 22s before some excellent play from Nikki Caughey say her slide through the defence to score under the posts. She then added the extras to take the score to 3 – 7.

The two teams were quite evenly matched and this showed throughout the later part of the first half which saw both teams with opportunities however the half ended with the score line unchanged.

Some words of wisdom from the coach at half time saw the Quins Ladies start to play the running style of rugby that they are known for in the second half. There were a number of tries scored in quick succession – some excellent defence from Brenda Brogan was not quite enough to stop Zoe Templeton from crossing the line for the first of her two tries for the game. The bonus point try came from Ashleigh Baxter following some excellent work from Annmarie Nolan and Ilse Van Staden at the lineout.

Enniskillen rallied in the last quarter of the game and were rewarded for their hard work despite some good defence by the Quins Ladies. Enniskillen continued to exert pressure but it was the Quins Ladies that had the final say before the ref called an end to the game.
It was a tough physical match and will be good preparation for the home game against Longford at 1pm on 20 November. Please come along and support the Quins Ladies as they strive for the league title and promotion to AIL Div 1.
