Monaghan defeated 39-8

BHSFP defeated Monaghan 39-8 in their first home match. BHSFP’s vastly superior scrum set the tone for the game and allowed no.8 Bryan McGreal to score an arm-chair hat-trick. Brian McKernon, Stephen Drennan, Andy Morrison and Matt Creighton were the other try scorers.

As the first half came to an end the BHSFP backs had started to cut loose and put together some outstanding moves with clever angles being ran and line breaks a plenty. With the score at 24-0 at halftime the home side got a bit sloppy for a period of the 2nd half allowing Monaghan to score from a quick tap pen. BHSFP pushed on from the disappointment of not keeping a clean sheet to finish strongly, with the Monaghan hooker receiving a yellow card for dissent as their scrum time frustrations grew.

On a wet day akin to the conditions in New Zealand the home side took a leaf out of Jonny Wilkinsons book and missed 5 conversions. Some from in front of the posts! On other days this could prove costly but this was an encouraging performance for the season ahead.
