We have just caught up with one of the Larne Coaches Davy Wilson. Davy coaches at Larne along with Barry Willis & Garth Kennedy and we asked him to comment on the journey to Q 3b success,

“We thought we had a fairly good squad and had a really good pre season with the guys showing alot of commitment. Coaching at Larne Rugby is shared between myself, Barry Willis & Garth Kennedy. this coaching approach works well.

So we had a good coaching set up and pre-season numbers at training.

We thentprogressed to a good start and got into a winning culture right from the out set and the team has been hungry.

It has not been easy, Larne are a target team, if you can beat larne you can win the league so there is no easy ride, we are the sort of the team that like to play a team game, we play an expansive game, at the start we were playing well then when the bad weather came in we were winning games without playing particularly well then in the latter part of the season we starting winning well again.

During the bad weather our guys really stepped up to the plate to keep their training going.

Comments on Randalstown, Newry & Donegal Games:

Randalstown is always a tricky game, but Newry have really got things going Rhhys botha has really rejuvenated them, but we had a bit to spare and we played them at home. Last week we had to go to Donegal to seal it we had lost our two wingers but the guys that came in scored it was a tough test but we came throught it reasonable comfortably it is not easy to travel to Donegal and win, but we did it.

We have also beat Monaghan to reach the Gordon West Cup Final to be played at Ravenhill on 16th April.

We played very well and the final score was 26-12

PURE TEAM EFFORT THROUGHOUT THE CLUB.

This squad are a good young group including a few older hands Stevie Marshall and Danny Hagan.”

Congratulations to Larne and we look forward to covering the Gordon West Cup Final.
