CONDITIONS: Pleasant evening with stiff breeze blowing diagonally up the pitch from Shaw’s Bridge end.
This was Instonian’s chance to move up to the top of the league table. They took it with a try bonus point win in this “away” fixture against neighbours Cooke RFC. Everyone knew that this was going to be a tough derby encounter and it was!
Cooke kicked off with quite a stiff breeze in their favour. However, they were penalised almost immediately at the breakdown to give scrum half Matthew Keane a chance to kick for touch down into the Cooke half. This marked the start of a period of Instonian dominance. They held the ball well and soon mounted the phases. Right from the off they showed that they intended to play rugby……..
