Fourth XV weather the storm to eventually topple Enniskillen

Last year’s beaten finalists; Ballymoney Fourths got their McCambley cup campaign off to a winning start with this hard fought encounter in Co Fermanagh. The free flowing rugby this Ballymoney side have become accustomed to over the last few weeks was virtually impossible with the atrocious weather conditions, relentless rain and strong winds.

The first half saw both teams bravely battle it out up front. Conditions dictated that the game was going to be won or lost in the forwards. Twenty minutes into the game came a period of sustained Ballymoney pressure. Some good phases of play by the Ballymoney pack saw scrum half Stuart Nevin release Sam Bartlett with a lovely reverse pass, deep inside the Enniskillen 22 metre zone. The prop forward powered his way over the Enniskillen try line to claim the first score of the match.

Enniskillen reduced the deficit on thirty minutes with a penalty after a Ballymoney infringement.
