Valiant Warriors stumble to Tullow to lose 3 – 0 in a tremendous game of rugby!

The Canterbury Warriors won the toss on their home grounds in Longford Rfc and decided to play with the light wind in the first half.

The Warriors dominated from once they received the ball in the kick off with exceptional runs from Yvonne Dowd and Maire Hanly sucking in the defence as it was taking at least four tacklers to bring the girls down. Head coach Damian Curley has been working hard with the girls and it really showed as they ran play after play penetrating deep into the Tullow side. Sharon Treacy gave a low kick which was chased by the ever eager backs Clíodhna O’Donnell and Claire McDermott but unfortunately a Tullow player managed to ground the ball a second before they got to it. The Warriors scum was outstanding especially from the second row Emma Mulvey and Mairead Coy which allowed for the nimble scrum half Nuala McGoey to get clean ball out to the back line. The back unit worked tirelessly running series of plays and spreading the ball wide to the fast and furious wingers Miriam Gonzalo and Siobhan Nugent. The Warriors took many quick penalties from play when the Tullow Girls failed to release the ball, just before half time the Warriors decided to go for the posts on one of these penalties. Carol Manning stepped confidently up to take the penalty but with the unpredictable wind the ball drifted to the right of the posts and the penalty was narrowly missed. The Tullow girls had a very strong pack and tried to break the Warrior line of defence with some solo runs but it would have taken an incredible player to break the Warriors line of defence as each player played with such heart and discipline.
