Ticket details announced as U20 Championship marks 100 days to go
Young fans can watch future stars of world rugby for free
Tickets go on official sale from 20 March
Tournament takes place from 2-20 June in northern Italy
The countdown is on to this year’s World Rugby U20 Championship, with just 100 days to go until kick-off in the north of Italy.
The premiere underage rugby tournament starts on 2 June and will be played in Parma, Calvisano and Viadana with the final in Cremona on 20 June.
Tickets to the competition, which showcases the future stars of world rugby, will be free for fans under 16 years of age and will go on sale from 20 March, through the Federazione Italiana Rugby’s (FIR) official ticketing partner TicketOne.
A proven finishing school, the tournament has produced 335 graduates to the test arena. Current international stars who have graduated from the U20 Championship include Aaron Cruden and Julian Savea (NZL), Quade Cooper (AUS), George Ford and Owen Farrell (ENG), Sam Warburton (WAL) and Conor Murray (IRE).
Perhaps one of the quickest graduates to rise through the ranks, South Africa’s Handre Pollard made his Springbok debut just two weeks after playing in the final of the 2014 competition, where he was also crowned Junior Player of the Year.
Many of Italy’s current senior squad have also risen through the ranks of the U20 Championship. Tournament ambassador Luca Morisi, himself a former Italy U20 centre, announced himself on the international scene in style last week, when he scored two tries against England during their RBS 6 Nations clash in Twickenham.
Rugby fans from the Lombardy and Emilia Romagna regions are getting set for a memorable tournament in the area.
Tullio Rosolen, FIR’s Tournament Director, said: “The World Rugby U20 Championship will be a fantastic way of promoting the sport in our country.
“The ticketing policy is focused at families and youngsters, allowing them to access free or low-cost tickets to watch three different matches on a single match day.
“Calvisano, Viadana and Parma are three rugby-mad cities, and Cremona warmly welcomed Italy when the Azzurri faced Fiji back in 2013. Following our hosting of the U20 championship in 2011, I’m confident we will deliver a fantastic and unforgettable tournament for both players and fans.”
