Well it is finally here, Fancy Dress. I don’t think this write up will do it much justice, but I will try my best! Games kicked off as usual but with a healthy change from the usual jerseys. Fancy dress style! Well, I don’t think # Tag got the email!! We will start off with the Ciddlers ‘Circus’ Freaks versus Gym Class ‘Fr Ted’s’ Heroes. A funny sight to be seen, was a giant teddy bear aka Cathal Mulhern attempting to run for the try line. No need to mention Mark Kennedy and his leotard. Oh wait no, I just did! Gym class heroes brought a whole new meaning to ‘flying nuns’ as they attempted to outsmart the freaks, with God on their side. They even had ‘my lovely horse’ grazing about the place. Moving swiftly on, the nerds (Yeats) took on the Garden Gnomes ( Jammie Dodgers). The Troopers would make nerds look fashionable. The suspenders were a nice touch! Garden Gnomes, I have to say did a great job accessorising. Watering cans, wellies, shovels and they sewed on flowers on all their garments. A first for Sligo Tag. The Crows of Yippee Try Yay, sponsored by Shoot the Crows went head to head against Fairly Lively’s Ninjas. Feathers went flying during this battle! Funny sights were had, with Guten Tag, getting their best Simpson characters on versus the Swaggers Lumberjacks. Serious effort from both teams, and I’m talking about costumes, not running and tagging! The Scrumbags versus the Abbvie All Blacks or should I say, Baywatch versus Fr Ted! The Generals came as Riverdance and played another set of Fr Ted characters from the Other Guys. It was a sight to see Riverdance being performed mid way through a Tag game! The Hornets came as Superheroes, with Ironman, Spider-Man, Batman, Robin, Catwoman and She-Ra even made an appearance! Thunderstruckers came as the World Cup, with it just around the corner and all. They took on an army of Tooth Fairies aka No Woman No Try! Men in pink tu-tu’s, always funny! Tagvie sported bedtime paraphernalia, with onesies versus the nymphs, fairies and fairy princess of the Expert Taggers. The princess managed to play in her ball gown. Now that’s dedication to the cause of fancy dress! Always a classic, Where’s Wally was modelled by G’wan Our Crowd. Misfits took computer gaming on to the tag pitch, featuring Mario, Luigi and Wario, Ms Pac Man, along with Lara Croft, Donkey Kong and Street Fighter’s Chun Li took on Tag-Quila. Tag-quila made a Sligo Tag first, going as sports trophy statues. Brilliant idea and featured soccer, boxing, rugby, of course, hockey, tennis, surfing and the GAA even got a spot light! Strandvestites took a classic and went for PAC Man. They even featured the fruits from the game. Now that’s attention to detail. They took on Here 4 Beer’s mime act. Here 4 Beer really got into character, miming their way through the game. So it the Strandvestites showed attention to detail, Here 4 Beer went a step further and got into character! Well done!! The Show Ponies went for energy efficiency, going as a Brazilian soccer team. Last but not least, Tagmania came as the Tagmania Ceili Band, with banner and all. Legless lizards came late but made up it with their hen party get-up!
Well done all for getting into the spirit and being great sports, particularly the Troopers who played two games and anyone else who subbed for teams to allow games to go ahead. Much appreciated. A huge thanks to BTW Baths, Tiles and Woodfloors who sponsored the night and the prizes of bar tabs for the winning teams, who were the Jammie Dodgers, claiming top spot and the Tooth Fairies and Wally coming in second and third.
Thursday next will feature a sports night and a return to the league fixtures. Also, anyone interested in playing beach tag, give us a shout. 5th July is fast approaching 🙂
