CONVINCING WIN FOR BALLINASLOE

BALLINASLOE 19—5 BUCCANEERS

Ballinasloe moved without fuss to joint top of Div 1A of the Connacht Junior League with this fully merited 14 point win over near neighbours, Buccaneers, on Sunday. Though their nearest rivals have games on hand over them, nevertheless, points in the bank is probably a safer scenario than chasing them at seasons end. Played in dry conditions and with strong winter sun filtering through, belying the rain filled days of late, the pitch at Graigueawoneen stood up well to the action even if it did churn up a little towards the end.
Ballinasloe flew out of the traps and when Buccs knocked on from the kick off the locals drove them back metres at the ensuing scrum giving themselves, in the process, a huge psychological boost. Indeed their scrum held the upper hand all afternoon and with this facet of the game in the bag they went on to dominate possession and territory for long stretches. However, their lineout work was not as well coordinated and when they kicked a penalty into the corner in the 6th minute Buccs robbed their throw, in a promising position. Ballinasloe failed to make the most of a strong Conor Johnston burst down the right wing after 11 minutes and David Fagan was able to clear his lines……. CLICK HERE for the full report!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
