Connacht Junior Cup
Loughrea 0 – NUIG 14
NUIG advanced to the last eight of the Connacht Junior Cup yesterday after a hard fought win against Loughrea in Ballygasty. Played in cold but perfect weather and difficult underfoot conditions, both teams tried to be positive and keep the ball in hand. The action swung from end to end as the sides turned around 0-0 at half-time. However, College made the decisive breakthrough in the final quarter when scrumhalf Dave O’Mahony took a quick tap to release No.6 Sean O’Gorman who dived over near the right-hand corner. Joss Murray slotted the difficult conversion. Dave O’Mahony capped a fine individual performance with his own try to seal the victory for College; Murray again adding the extras. College have drawn Westport at home in the 1/4 final, which will be played next Sunday, 8 Feb, 2.30pm kick-off in Dangan. All support welcome.
