Indicators for cyclists’ hands improve visibility and protection.
Indik8a, an innovative new safety signalling system for cyclists, has launched today. A clever hand light, Indik8a introduces high visibility when indicating on a bicycle, providing another level of protection for cyclists in low level light.
Lightweight and easy-to-use, Indik8a can be worn on a bare hand or over a glove and features an illuminated directional arrow that is activated by a switch on each hand. It is aimed at cyclists of all ages, from commuters through to parents who want their children to be more visible when cycling. There are two sizes, both of which are adjustable to fit the majority of adult and children’s hands (children’s version coming soon).
Most cyclists riding at night wear some level of reflective clothing and use good lights on their bike. Indik8a understands that cyclists can feel most vulnerable when changing direction, as it often puts them into the path of a car trying to get around them. Although some gloves have reflective elements, these often don’t show up when a cyclist signals, particularly compared to the brightness of rear lights and any oncoming traffic headlights.

Lady Mary now spends most of her time helping young sports men and women to achieve their dreams by supporting them through her charity, The Mary Peters Trust. In 2000 she was appointed Dame Commander of the British Empire and she was bestowed the member of the Order of the Companions of Honour (CH) in the 2015 New Years Honours list. Mary was names as Lady Companion of the Order of the Garter on 27 February 2019 and we installed in St George’s Chapel, the Chapel of the Order, on Garter Day 17 June 2019.

Birmingham’s Bullring & Grand Central launch ‘Under Wraps’ the first ever service which promises to disguise presents from prying eyes
Thursday 5th December 2019: Bullring & Grand Central reveal the great lengths the nation goes to uncover the contents of their Christmas gifts. Almost half (46%) guess what gifts are before they open, 36% admit to shaking presents, almost a third (31%) try to find where they are hidden, and 13% have even unwrapped and then rewrapped presents.[i] The new research is released as Birmingham’s premier shopping destination announces the first ever free service which will disguise your Christmas presents through clever wrapping techniques, to avoid loved ones guessing what you’ve bought them.
Technology plays a part in the mission to reveal gifts, as almost one in 10 (8%) of those polled use computers or smart phones to find out what presents were bought for them. This rises to 17% amongst 16 to 34-year-olds polled.
Almost one in four (24%) say that seeing wrapped gifts under the Christmas tree is one of their favourite parts of the festive season, and it is estimated that Brits are likely to wrap an average of nine presents this year. The nation will spend over 3 million days wrapping gifts this Christmas,[ii] and each of us will spend up to two days wrapping Christmas gifts in our lifetime.[iii]
Three quarters of women aged 45 to 54 say that they take on the responsibility of gift wrapping amongst family members, whereas only 17% of men aged 16 to 24 take on this role.
Just 17% of individuals say they are very confident wrapping presents, and the nation’s put offs around wrapping presents include not being able to wrap neatly (according to 22%) and one in five (20%) says it taking too long. 62% also said it was important to be environmentally friendly while wrapping presents. Furthermore, 23% say that they recycle their wrapping paper each year.
The new ‘Under Wraps’ boutique will launch in Birmingham’s Bullring & Grand Central on Thursday 19th and Friday 20th December, offering a free service to transform gifts from something that’s easy to guess into festive shapes. The team of wrapping experts, led by the UK’s most prestigious gift-wrapping expert Jane Means, will also provide more traditional wrapping options using recyclable paper to help customers have a more sustainable Christmas.

Why not re-use wallpaper remnants to make fantastic gift bags and envelopes as they hold their shape beautifully
If you run out of Sellotape, do not despair! When wrapping small size boxes crease the paper so it will hold itself around the gift and add ribbon to keep the paper tight
