Matt Brown welcomed as new Firsts Head Coach

Galwegians is happy to welcome Matt Brown to the club as our new head coach for the 2014-15 season.

Matt will partner with Connacht legend John Muldoon to guide our AIL Division 1B campaign, as well as aiming to retain our Connacht Senior League and Cup titles for the third season in a row.

Matt is a former professional and semi-professional rugby player who has lived and played in England, South Africa, Australia, Italy , USA and in Ireland since 2007. He played representative rugby in England, Australia and USA and was a full time professional in Italy.

Since 2007 Matt has been Senior Cup Coach with Dublin’s Catholic University School in Dublin, and coached them to the Vinnie Murray Trophy in 2011. He was until recently Head Coach with Leinster Junior side Railway Union RFC, and also coached Old Wesley Under 21s.

In addition, Matt is a founder and coach of the Wild Geese Sevens team, the premier 7s team in Ireland.

Along with rugby Matt also spent 5 years in the corporate environment in the UK working as a business analyst. He now works actively on the Playball kids sport program and coaches in four schools in the Dublin area.

Matt joins a long line of enthusiastic and talented coaches who have worked with Galwegians including Warren Gatland, John Kingston, George Hook and Eddie O’Sullivan, and he is looking to build on the momentum of last season’s AIL 2A winning coach Cory Brown.

Galwegians is happy to welcome Matt and we are looking forward to another great season of Sky Blue rugby.
