BONUS POINT WINNING MATCH FOR CARRICK RFC SENIORS
Carrick RFC seniors travelled to Monivea at the weekend for their first away fixture of the season. The Galway club fielded a strong side, giving the Carrick team an early season opportunity to see how they measured up against the top end of the league.
Strong early play from Monivea saw Carrick concede a penalty followed by a converted try, giving their opponents a 10-0 lead, but Carrick responded quickly with a try of their own from flanker Justin Farrell to bring the score line up to 10-5 at half-time.
The second half opened with Carrick on the offensive, forcing multiple errors from Monivea leading to a total of 3 yellow cards being given in succession to the Galway side. Capitalising on this, Carrick scored a second try after a concerted effort against the Monivea defence, with Hynes carrying the ball across the line. Michael Martin playing at No10 converted the try, bringing the score to 12-10, and giving Carrick the lead ahead of closing play.
Monivea finished stronger scoring another unconverted try and a penalty leaving Carrick on the losing side of an 18 – 12 score line.
Carrick’s performance earned them a losing bonus point; however their overall play bodes well for future matches over the coming months. Anyone interested in joining the Seniors should contact Colm on 086 823 8795.

U15 League win over Buccaneers
Carrick u-15s started their league campaign against the ever strong Buccaneers from Athlone. On what was a lovely morning for rugby both teams served up an exciting and tense game with Carrick coming out on the better side of an 18-17 scoreline.
Indeed it was Carrick who got on the scoreboard first with a try from Francis Mc Govern but Buccs answered this with a try of their own. Carrick then tagged on another try this time coming from Sean Lenehen, although Carrick failed to add the conversion Paul Woods struck over a vital penalty from distance. As the game see-sawed it saw Buccs claw back a try and conversion leaving the game on a knife edge it was now Carrick that hit for a score this time coming from Tom Mc Keon on the wing. Buccs weren’t quiet done and came back to score but failed to add the conversion. With only a point between the teams Carrick saw out the last few minutes defending strong Buccs attack holding out for a hard fought victory. Credit must go to all players on both teams for a very entertaining game and also to all the supporters that turned up for the very early kick off.

World Cup Rugby & Carrick Cineplex

Unfortunately for Ireland our 2015 RWC adventure ended this weekend in Cardiff with a defeat to a rampant Argentinean side. Ireland got off to a slow start while Argentina ran into a 20 – 3 lead before Ireland launched a comeback. Ireland got close early in the second half trailing by 3 points but Argentina finished stronger running in a series of tries to kill off the Irish challenge.
CRFC would like to thank Carrick Cineplex for sponsoring and screening Irelands RWC pool and quarter final games over recent weeks.
