sligo tag round upWe have reached tag night five and we are still going strong. Tonight meant a new league for all the conference grading teams. Teams are now well matched and score lines will be tighter, so teams are going to be stepping it up for the next few weeks, with playoffs for semis and finals in the last two weeks of tag.

In the upper intermediate league, A close game ensued between Guten Tag and #Tag. A battle of cunning between Ruth Goodwin of # Tag and Laura Spellman of Guten was constant throughout the game with both getting one over each other and both scoring their fair share of tries! Great game from Marian of Guten Tag and Niamh Burke of the Gutens, who shows she may be small but she is fast, really fast! Not fast enough though, with # Tag taking glory, with a final score of 29-23. The Generals got clipped of a win by Yippee Try Yay, sporting a brand new jersey, featuring brand spanking new sponsors, Shoot the Crows. Sligo Rugby women’s captain, Mairead Keane was on time. Oh wait no, same old Mairead, late! Great game though with a score of 20-10. Thunderstruckers had a battle of their very own versus newcomers to the upper league, Legless Lizards. Close but no cigar for the lizards, with the Struckers winning13-11 but keep up the good work guys. Fortune favours the bold and also the party attendees 🙂 the last but by no means the least, Misfits. And yes, I am making a play on words with regards the scoreline. Yes, Strandvestites beat the Misfits 29-14. Yes, a large, not the least or lowest points gap 😛 With this, Strandvestites take top spot! Guten Tag take second, Thunderstruckers root themselves in third, with # Tag ready to pounce in fourth.

Let’s talk Premiership! Ciddlers Freaks get off to a good start, taking the win 11-9. Cathal Mulhern showing off his winning dance after. I will definitely understand next time Cathal! Had a great chat with Tom and Serena of the Hornets, who are enjoying the season so far. The Expert Taggers take the win over Tagmania. A close encounter with a score of 10-12. The Swaggers take top spot though, beating G’Wan Our Crowd 14-9, with Ciddlers and the Experts joint second. Exciting times ahead!

Now to the Championship we go. A battle of guile or simply just running really fast into gaps, I’m not sure, took place between Cara Crusaders and Gym Class Heroes. The crusaders managed to come out with a 18-16 win. Abbvie All Blacks narrowly win over the Scrumbags. Still waiting on that haka, All Blacks! A draw between Here 4 Beer and The Other Guys, ending with 13 a piece. The Crusaders take top spot with the All Blacks in second.

Boom, let’s have a look at Division 1. The Show Ponies make love, not war, with a score of 24-17 over A Bit Of Blue and top spot with it. Win or Lose We Booze slip into second with a win over the Troopers, 14-7. Finally, Tag-quila knock Jammie Dodgers down a peg or two or more aptly, 6, with a score of 19-13, helping themselves to third spot.

Now to cast a look over the Conference. The green of Tagvie take a win over the Majors, 12-5 and take pole position in the league. Has to be said that Conor Mitchell was making some fantastic tags for the Majors. No Woman, No Try get their first win over Volkstagen, 13-11 and with it second place. Finally, Can’t Tag This had a first win, beating Fairly Lively 18-17. Discussions ensued between myself and the Can’t Tag This bench, inspired by the hips of Fairly Lively’s Gary Smith. Padraic mentioned twisty, snake-like hips were a rare entity. Ronan was also bedazzled by his own teammate, Karl’s dazzling play making abilities.

A school sport’s night followed with a wheelbarrow race, relay, drop-kick competition, three-legged race, wellie throw and egg and spoon race. My obstacle course took place, inspired by Runamuck and To Hell And Back. I was a proud mother hen looking on at the hilarity and craic that ensued! It was definitely worth the effort to get the tyres and set up those hurdles. A special thanks to the sponge throwers and to those who helped me set up and tidy up after. So many helpers giving me a hand, so I won’t name names. Ye know who ye are! Thanks to Miriam from Fitness for All, based on the airport Road who loaned me the tyres! Give them a shout for your fitness needs! Definitely looking forward to next year, with a bit more Runamuck style races. Thanks to Runamuck for the prizes! Thanks also to Jako Sport for sponsoring that winning team the overall team prize for the Sports night of 15euro vouchers for each person. Enjoy # Tag and well done on the double win! 🙂 see you guys next week followed by a McHughs night!
