In this top versus bottom joust, Buccs belied their table-propping position to deservedly fashion a greatly needed victory. Weather and underfoot conditions made this a battle of wills and here the Pirates ruled supreme as the long time leaders stuttered for a second successive fixture. Buccs took the game to the visitors from the off, despite playing against the elements. It was a whole-hearted and sustained collective effort by the Athlone side against their arch rivals who looked like their more physical pack would dominate in the early set-pieces. However, Buccs were relentless in their quest for the spoils, winning most of the 50/50 collisions in the testing conditions, and Cameron Hertz finally found his feet in the midlands scoring all the homesters’ points…….
